To introduce kids 18 months and older to the sensory benefits of gardening. From the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables to the sound of bees buzzing around and the sight of bright native flowers, every sense is engaged in gardening.

Hi! I'm Kristen Smeal. I grew up on a farm in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. I have been gardening my entire life! My great-grandfather had acre upon acre of land and on that land was a large potato patch and other vegetables, as well as an orchard. I inched my way across the country, stopping first in Arizona to complete an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, and now to the Bay Area.

I’ve always been interested in educating children, first in the pediatric dentistry field and now through gardening workshops and as the Coordinator of the Toddler Gardens at Lake Merritt. I am also a full-time mother, Master Gardener, and school-gardens mentor. I love living in an urban environment, especially the Bay Area, where I can share my passion for gardening with others 365 days a year.

Hope to see you at one of my upcoming workshops or pop-ups.
